May 29: Shakespeare in the Park Posted by David in 'Club News' Join the DC Bruins for Shakespeare in the Park, a Washington, DC staple! The evening with the DC Bruins includes a picnic starting at 5:30pm before the play which is scheduled to begin at 7:30. Here is some information for this year's play: Hamlet by William Shakespeare directed by Alexander Burns original direction by "Insightful re-imagining... Watch the Final Four at the Mug! Posted by David in 'Club News' Hey folks. UCLA is returning to the Final Four for the third straight year and things are looking very good. All number one seeds, all winning more than 30 games. The best of the best. It all starts with UCLA facing an aggressive Memphis team looking to avenge their 2006 Elite Eight loss on Saturday in the first game of the evening. We invite you to join us at The Ugly Mug at 723 8th St. SE to watch with your fellow Bruins take on the Tigers starting at 6:07pm ET on Saturday, April 5th. Be sure to get there early as we are sure to have one of the largest crowds of the year. Hope to see you there!
Chancellor Block Comes to Washington! Posted by David in 'Club News' Keep checking your email inbox for an official announcement, but as a heads up, your fellow DC area alumni are welcoming Chancellor Block to the nation's capital on January 22, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the UC Washington Center. The national alumni association will have an RSVP site up soon that we'll point you toward. In the mean time, save the date!
Done for the Year! Posted by David in 'Club News' Hey folks! We're done for the year as far as get togethers go. There will of course be the Las Vegas Bowl at the Ugly Mug and basketball season starting up. In 2008, we'll return with a get together in early January, plus, an event at the UC Washington Center hosting our new Chancellor Gene Block! Have a wonderful holiday and we'll see you in 2008!
Potential All-UC Bowling Night Coming Soon! Posted by David in 'Club News' Earlier this week, I reported in the newsletter that a USC-UCLA Bowling Night was in the works. Well, it turns out that the other 9 UC Campuses had the same great idea and that it may become an All-UC night instead. It looks to be November 28th, a Wednesday evening. Stay tuned for details! Also coming soon: The Holiday Party!
Tickets Now On Sale for "The Music of John Williams" Posted by David in 'Club News' Bruins, Tickets are now available for the Kennedy Center event, "The Music of John Williams". The National Symphony Orchestra will be performing the famous works of this Academy Award winning UCLA alumnus. The performance will be Thursday, October 25 at 7:00p. Tickets are $30 for members (a saving of $14 over list price) or $40 for non-members. Read more about this event or click here to order tickets.
Volunteer to Help Your DC Bruins! Posted by David in 'Club News' Hey Folks, It's been awhile (I know) and we're working on keeping the web site updated more frequently. One of the ways we're doing this is to grow our Board of Directors at the Club! See, right now, we have a small council of about 5 folks who work very hard to bring events to you each month and sometimes, its just not enough. We're looking for a couple individuals who are willing to meet once a month (the first Monday of each month, around 6:30p at the UC Washington Center near Farragut Square/Dupont Circle) and can of course help out with other stuff. Please join us this Monday, October 1 at 6:30p at the UC Washington Center (1608 Rhode Island Ave., NW) for our monthly meeting and feel free to volunteer. We welcome extra help in nearly any area.
Fall Events Coming Soon Posted by David in 'Club News' August is a slow time in Washington with much of the town taking time off while congress is in recess. With that said, the DC Bruins are going to lay low for the remainder of August and start things off with a bang September 1st as we bring back UCLA Football at the Ugly Mug! The first game of the season is against the Stanford Cardinal and we will be back at our usual place for every televised Bruin game this season (which should be almost every one of them). This fall, we also plan to do Dinner with DC Strangers and a few other surprises that we'll reveal as we get closer and closer to the holidays and the big U$C game. As for summer, a big thanks to everyone who came out for our events, including Career Night, Freshman Send Off, and our Third Thursday Happy Hour. Look for some changes to this site soon as we add a classifieds directory, helping Bruins find jobs in the Washington-metropolitan area!
